Why encrypt a file on PDFDocks?
Encrypting a file before sending it via email or uploading it to the cloud adds an extra layer of protection — even if someone accesses the file, they won't be able to open it without your password. PDFDocks does it directly in your browser, with real AES-256 encryption, ensuring your file and password never leave your device.
Is it really secure, or just symbolic protection?
+
It's real encryption: AES-256, the same standard used by banks, governments, and security companies. It's not simple weak password protection — without the correct password, the file is mathematically impossible to open with current technology.
Can anyone at PDFDocks see my password or file?
+
No. The entire process happens in your browser — your file and password are never sent to any server. We have no technical way to access them.
What types of files can I encrypt?
+
Any type: documents, photos, videos, compressed files... there are no format restrictions.
How do I open the encrypted file later?
+
Using our "Decrypt file" tool, with the same password you used to encrypt it.
What if I lose my password?
+
The file cannot be recovered in any way. Since we don't keep any copies on any server, we cannot help you regain access.
Is there a file size limit?
+
We haven't set any artificial limits. The only real limit is your device's memory.
