Frequently asked questions about the SEPA payment QR code generator
Everything you need to know about the SEPA transfer payment QR code.
What is a SEPA payment QR code?
+
It's a QR code that follows the European EPC standard (also known as Girocode in Germany and Austria) and encodes your IBAN, name and, optionally, the amount and concept, so whoever scans it from their banking app can pre-fill a transfer automatically.
Does it work with any bank?
+
It works with most banking apps in SEPA-zone countries (the EU and a few others), though exact support depends on each bank — it's especially popular in Germany, Austria and other central European countries.
Is entering the amount mandatory?
+
No, it's optional. If you leave it blank, whoever scans the code can enter the amount manually when paying.
Do I need to enter the BIC?
+
In most cases, no: since 2016 the BIC is no longer required for transfers within the SEPA zone if the IBAN is known, though you can add it if you want to be more explicit.
Is my data sent to any server?
+
No, the QR code is generated entirely in your browser; your IBAN and the rest of the data never leave your device.
Can I add the QR to my invoices?
+
Yes, download it as a PNG image and paste it into your invoice or quote PDF with any editor, or include it in your usual template.
