Why convert your PDFs to MOBI on PDFDocks?
MOBI was the native format for older Kindles, and although Amazon no longer uses it on its latest devices (which prefer AZW3), it's still necessary for many older e-readers. Converting to MOBI requires uploading the PDF to our server, because this format cannot be generated with JavaScript alone in your browser — we process it with Calibre, the world's most widely used free and open-source e-book converter. Your file is automatically deleted right after the conversion. If you have a relatively recent Kindle, our PDF to AZW3 tool will likely be more suitable, as that's the format used by current models.
What Kindle devices support MOBI?
+
The file is uploaded to our server because it's necessary to process it with Calibre, but it's deleted immediately after the conversion.
MOBI or AZW3, which do I need for my Kindle?
+
The newest Kindles use AZW3; MOBI is compatible mainly with older models. If you're unsure, try AZW3 first.
Do I need to create an account to use this tool?
+
Yes. Images from the PDF are embedded in the MOBI file.
Why does this tool upload the file?
+
Because generating a valid MOBI requires Calibre, which can only run on a server, not directly in your browser.
Does it work well with scanned PDFs?
+
It works best with text-based PDFs. With scanned documents, the result may be poor since Calibre needs to be able to read the content.
How long does the conversion take?
+
Usually a few seconds, though it may vary depending on the PDF size and server load at that moment.
